Our History

The roots of Mountain View Assembly can be traced to evangelistic meetings held in an upper room over a shoe store in Smithers beginning in the fall of 1939 and continuing into the spring of 1940.  Smithers Pentecostal Church was the result of those meetings.  In 1959, a second assembly was established in Telkwa.

From 1954 until 1977, the Smithers and Telkwa churches continued to grow and establish effective ministries in their respective communities.  Then, with the Smithers church contemplating a new building program, and with the purchase of 5.5 acres on Highway 16 at Viewmount Road, the two congregations began discussions about amalgamating and building a new church together.

In 1979, the vision became reality, as the building was completed and the first services of Mountain View Assembly were held.  Since that time, MVA has continued to provide a strong Pentecostal witness, with the goal of reaching the communities of the Bulkley Valley with the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ in the power of the Holy Spirit.
